Hi everyone.
I’ve been troubleshooting a problem related to laptop suspension for some time (more than 4 weeks).
I’ll start by saying that the model is an MSI Pulse Gl76 11UEK:
motherboard: MS-17LI;
CPU: 11th gen Intel core i7-11800H;
GPU; Nvidia 3060 Mobile.
The installed build is fedora 40 (Kernel version: 6.11.10-200.fc40.x86_64). The problem has been happening for different versions of the kernel, I kept updating hoping a solution to the problem would be introduced. But nothing.
The problem started when I sent it to sleep and when I returned it gave me a white screen saying “oops, a problem has occurred. Try logging in again”.
Upon startup I noticed that all the extensions were deactivated and in the logs there was a problem with either the extensions, the crash of a kernel linked to nvidia or gnome shell. They didn’t always happen all together. I tried deactivating the extensions one at a time, to understand which ones were causing problems (I want to underline that this thing happens randomly, which is why it took me a while). I managed to find 2 that cause problems: touchegg and tiling shell. I thought I had solved the problem, but here it happened again. I ended up turning off extensions completely, as the problem kept happening.
And so far, it seemed solved. But no, because now the PC goes to sleep and when I try to “wake it up” the keyboard is on, my headphones connect via Bluetooth, but I don’t receive any video output. And I have to force shut down the system. When I restart, I always find the same problem in the logs:
(As you can read from the immages, it first got detected 3 month ago. So it happend and I didn’t even notice it. Or I even forgot. )
So I thought maybe the problem was that I forced the video card to be used as output, since Fedora prefers the Intel GPU. I turn the setting off but nothing, it keeps happening. I therefore decide to completely reinstall the Nvidia drivers and hope for a resolution of the problem. I also looked for a guide to avoid messing up (Reddit - Dive into anything). And today, I move away from the laptop, I don’t even close the screen or tell it, it goes into suspension by itself (due to time limit) and as before, no video output. And I get the same results in the logs.
I tried looking for solutions online, but I couldn’t find any that solved my problem.
Again, it happens to me quite randomly, it might not happen for another week, so I struggle to troubleshoot it.
I hope someone has a solution, it’s driving me crazy.
