Samba AD DC In CentOS 10 Is It Possible

I have Installed CentOS Stream 10. Then I installed Samba per Installing and configuring a secondary Samba-AD on Redhat and derivatives — Samba-AD - 4.22 4.22 documentation . At that point I was able to refer back to my version /var/lib/samba and /etc/samba/smb.conf to have my server provide a Samba AD DC server,

This installation worked then updates were installed as requested by CentOS, then the Samba functionality disappeared. How can this be avoided, guarded against etc.. I need to run Samba AD DC on my server, but I can’t have CentOS Stream 10 blowing away the install every time a distribution update comes along

You should deploy Samba AD DC as a container or VM.
This makes it trivial to back up and restore the working system state.
You can also test updates on the system clone in an isolated environment.
