Do you have instructions for Silverblue install now Cosmic is in the main repository? I tried rpm-ostree install cosmic-desktop-environment but no joy. rpm-ostree search cosmic doesn’t return a desktop install option either. I don’t think rpm-ostree supports grouped installs, does it? So it might be helpful to have code to copy that does an rpm-ostree layered install of all the packages needed.
I had Cosmic installed for Alpha 1 - 3 but a nightly from 3 broke things and so I rolled back to uninstall Cosmic, but now it seems installation from repository would be better than the old update to /etc/yum.repros.d method.
I know I can use the ublue Cosmic but I don’t want to lose all the Gnome Setup and installs I already have, which I would do in a rebase.
Ok, I solved this by simply installing all the cosmic-* dependencies found by rpm-ostree search cosmic. To help others, here is the (long) command to cut and paste:
Hi @ryanabx ,
I’m seeing the following error when updating via DNF
Problem: cannot install the best update candidate for package cosmic-session-1.0.0~alpha.3^git20241122.53237d1-1.fc40.x86_64
- nothing provides cosmic-idle >= 1.0.0~alpha.4 needed by cosmic-session-1.0.0~alpha.4^git20241206.78316ba-1.fc40.x86_64 from copr:cop
r.fedorainfracloud.org:ryanabx:cosmic-epoch
Looks like cosmic-idle is being tag as alpha.3 but with the alpha.4 commit
Would you mind taking a look when you have a minute
Thanks,
Jagg2
If this is not the correct place to submit this please let me know.
Yes, still seeing this error from DNF.
Looking under packages I can see cosmic-idle last build version is 1.0.0~alpha.3^git20241115.eaa09a6-1 eaa09a6 is the latest commit and the one tagged epoch-1.0.0-alpha.4
From what I’m seeing I think DNF uses the tag in the build name to determine dependencies.
I’m not to familiar with he copr build system. So everything out side of what I see is a guess.
Hey @ryanabx,
Just went to do an update this morning and I can see cosmic-idle was in the install list.
Looks like it was rebuilt with the alpha.4 tag.
Everything in now working.
Thanks,
Sorry to put this here, but I’m having a hard time locating where I can file bugs for the fedora cosmic spin.
I do not have usb keyboard/mouse support unless I install kde plasma as well while using Fedora 42 rc7
It seems to work fine under their pop os, and the fact that installing kde plasma immediately makes the keyboard/mouse work upon reboot would seem to imply there is a packaging issue.
“I went ahead and installed from the beta 42 cosmic spin, which was rc3 - and had no external keyboard/mouse. upgraded to rc7 and still had no external keyboard/mouse. Once I added KDE Plasma per “dnf group install kde-desktop-environment” and rebooted I had a functioning external keyboard/mouse.”
For reference my setup is a framework laptop, plugged into a dell usb c dock, and a keyboard/mouse plugged into that.
Hi @ryanabx . Thanks very much for putting this together. I have issues when i install this and run it on a 5k2k display. The maximum supported resolution for that screen seems to be only 4k2k (have tried running on 1 screen alone). The 5k2k option shows up, but the system doesn’t apply it, because of which it either stretches the actual resolution.
