Problems with resolution on external screen

Hello Guys! So I have a problem with HDMI. I’m using Fedora 42 KDE Plasma, kernel 6.16-9 on Lenovo Ideapad Pro 5i Gen 10. When I connect to my TV via HDMI, I can’t change the resolution. This happens when I have the setting “Unify outputs” on, but changing the setting “Replica of” to none, it works, but really doesn’t. It messes everything up so I don’t do that. Changing “Unify outputs” to “Switch external screen” solves the problem and I can change the res to 4K. The thing is that I don’t really like that I can only see stuff on the TV and not on the Laptop screen. I hope there’s another solution, if not, seeing stuff only on the external screen will also be ok, just not my preference.

I am using Gnome and there I can select if I want to mirror the output or have separate output of every screen. This way you can give the laptop a lower resolution and different Hz. I just can guess that you do mirroring the content and use the resolution from the TV on your laptop.

Or in some laptops you can switch the monitors on/of with a shortcut. Please try FN & F6 alias FN & F10 on your keyboard of the laptop.

Is this your layout you are using >> Amazon.com: Keyboard Cover Skin for Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5i 14", Ideapad 5 Pro 14 Inch, Yoga 5i 7i 14, ThinkBook 14 G2 G3 G4, ThinkBook 14s 14p Yoga 14 : Electronics

So I can change how stuff should be displayed via Fn+F7, e.g. only showing on external screen and showing the same on both. The first works and the second doesn’t. I have the german layout btw so it looks a bit different for me.

As I mentioned I am on Gnome and can select if I want to mirror/duplicate the monitors (same on both monitors), or extend (create a large space, moving mouse from left to right etc.).

If you use extend then it should not just switch on and off. Then you should be able to cycle thru, turn on/of each of them. This way you can watch a video and switch temporarily of the laptops screen etc.

And as a side effect achieve that, what you write in the topic title, having independent resolutions on both displays. A TV has normally a different resolution/ratio than a Laptop screen.

To sum up, you would need to change from mirror/duplicate to extend. If this not works you still could get issues with the

You might have to change from Folder-View to Desktop or viz versa, to not mess up:
