I was running an update on my computer and the power went off.
… Ok that’s only partially true, I was a dummy and forgot to charge my laptop.
Anyway, I can’t get in my system anymore. I boot, put the encryption password but after that I just get sent back to the encryption password screen.
I tried other options with grub but no luck.
I can boot a live however, so I would like to ask, is there anything I can do to fix my system?
And, is any specific iso needed? I had the xfce one because it’s what I installed as I dislike gnome but if the default one is required I’ll get that instead.
I will download the gnome one and check the link, but at a glance those options may not be what I’m looking for as I can’t boot in the system at all, no command line or anything.
Read through the links in the link I posted, you need to boot into the live usb and then fix the system on your internal hard drive from there.
Follow the instructions and you should be able to get it done.
The encryption might get in the way of that though…
One other idea - I do hear that you can’t get past the encryption screen - but try ctrl+alt+f3 to take you to a new tty, after you attempt your encryption password
Haven’t worked on it until now but when chrooting I have no internet connection it seems.
I saved the important stuff on a drive so theoretically I can just reinstall and start over, but I just really wanted to see if I could fix it as a learning experience.
Yea, with a name like
“No wifi in chroot while repairing F42”
Other / and options: Use ethernet, with a USB ethernet adaptor (but I don’t know if it will work as I don’t know whe the wifi doesnt work) or instead of connecting to the net, copy the /root from the live USB to the HDD
