Nvidia kernel module missing falling back to nouveau

I just upgraded to the branched version 42. I was on 41. I performed all of the steps in the upgrade Fedora page. I have tried removing and reinstalling the nvidia drivers multiple times. I don’t get any errors but yet I can’t get the driver to load on boot.

“sudo modprobe nvidia” returns:

modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia': Invalid argument

mokutil --sb-state returns:

SecureBoot disabled

inxi -Fzxx returns

You can’t use --rebuild if the module doesn’t exist

You can disable compression in /usr/lib/rpm/macros.d/macros.kmodtool , edit line#67

# It is also possible to uncomment one of the macros provided below:

Thank you.

I uncommented that line and ran ‘sudo akmod --force’ I didn’t get any errors, but I’m still getting the nvidia kernel module missing on reboot

Thank you

sudo dmesg

570.86.16 has fbdev issues with 6.14rc, this is likely to prevent wayland sessions from working.
570.124.04 should fix that.

Hello Leigh,

Thank you. I uninstalled the nvidia modules. I then uncommented the line for no compression and ran the akmods command with ‘–rebuild’ and it seems to be working now. Thank you for all your help

And what’s the ETA on that?

It’s in the testing repo

Yeah, just ran dnf up and grabbed it, but it’s still falling back to nouveau

sudo dmesg

I think I edited the kernel cmdline on grub to remove the nouveau blacklist in order to have a usable PC after the nvidia driver failed to load. I’ve since rebooted, and this one is the boot with the original cmdline with the blacklist

Did you check to see if the nvidia module built ok?, the log indicates it missing.

You also need to remove nvidia-drm.modeset=1, it is already internally set, this is due to the fedora kernel devs perverting it’s use.

Did you check to see if the nvidia module built ok?

How do I check that? Or better, trigger a rebuild?

Also, I have Secure Boot enabled. Not sure if that’s still relevant.
