I have Asus FX 505DT laptop and I’m trying to install Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 driver. I’ve already tried to install it via rpm, but it worked incorrectly, some games and apps that I’ve played with Nvidia mx 130 using proton on this laptop aren’t working. Also I tried to install it manually, I tried to install 470.xx driver, but my loading stuck. I see the logo and nothing more.
???
What repo did you try installing from? rpmfusion?
What repos do you have enabled? Post the output of dnf repolist
You said you are using proton. Does that mean you are using steam? or something else? If using steam where was it installed from?
Please post the output of inxi -Fzxx
so we can see a little bit about your system. (you may need to install inxi)
Is your fedora system fully updated? sudo dnf upgrade
I’ve used this installation manual:
So, I’ve downloaded the 470 driver from Nvidia website.
The 470 driver does not allow you to use wayland and leaves you using xorg only. That may or may not be an issue for you, but you should know that up front. The newer 495 driver on fedora does allow the use of wayland on nvidia.
Try removing the driver installed from the nvidia site then follow the instructions below to install from the rpmfusion repo.
A very large advantage to installing the driver from rpmfusion is that with every kernel or driver update the new kernel modules are built automatically, while installing from nvidia requires you to manually build the modules every time there is an update.
To install the nvidia driver from rpmfusion there are only 3 steps involved.
- open the gnome software panel and enable the 3rd party repo
rpmfusion-nonfree-nvidia
(if using steam then enabling the rpmfusion-nonfree-steam repo at the same time may be of benefit as well) sudo dnf upgrade
sudo dnf install akmod-nvidia
The 3rd step will install the newer 495 driver that both supports your GPU and allows either wayland or xorg to run on the nvidia card.
If you are using steam as your first post seems to indicate, (but you did not specify), then you should remove steam you already have installed and install it from the rpmfusion repo with sudo dnf install steam
. The package installed from there is tested and configured to work on fedora. For me steam works best using xorg and not wayland.
Thank you for your reply. I’ve installed steam via software app and tried to install 495 Nvidia driver using rpm repo before, but I had a problem with shaders support, so I tried to install it from official website. I’ll try your solution later.
I’ve tried to install so right now, but when I’m starting stalker clear sky it says that pixel shaders v 1.1 are required. I’ve used proton 6.3.8 and 3.7.8, but it says the same info.
In addition I added info you asked previously
