Nvidia discrete gpu not detected

I have an ASUS Proart P16 H7606 laptop with AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and Nvidia 4070 GPU. Windows 11 works, including Nvidia GPU, but I would like to run Linux on it so I installed(dual boot) Fedora 41. Everything went surprisingly smoothly. I disabled secure boot and ensured bitlocker was disabled before installing Fedora as I know that can cause some issues for Linux.

I then wanted to install the proprietary Nvidia drivers and followed the rpmfusion guide to get it installed, just to notice that the nvidia card is nowhere to be found, not in lspci, inxi, or any other command I tried. How can this be?

Actually, its not available now when checking in W11 either so I guess the laptop is broken. I even tried to re-enable secure boot to be sure that doesn’t impact it but still no Nvidia card listed in either W11 nor Fedora.

Try lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 vga
If that does not show the nvidia GPU then it would appear the nvidia gpu is either not there or is broken.

Ok, so hardware is fine after all. I booted W11 and tried to connect laptop through HDMI port instead of USB-C like I normally do to my external monitor. This triggered My ASUS application in W11 to ask me to switch to optimized mode, pretty sure it was in standard (hybrid) mode before. After this the GPU appeared in W11, wasn’t seen there before either by any tool like HWiINFO etc. Rebooted back into Fedora and was greeted by the “could not load nvidia kernel driver” message. So I went through the process to sign the driver and after this its now visible in Linux as well.

So in the end it was all about flipping some switch / mode to tell it to activate the card, completely removed otherwise.

On a sidenote, when connecting through HDMI I can only get it to output 3840x2560 (3:2) in 50hz while through USB-C I can get the optimal 60hz. I think it was the same in W11 though so I blame laptop for that. HDMI cable is a short 1m good quality HDMI 2.1 cable so shouldn’t be the problem.
