My Fedora 40 Workstation cannot boot

Yesterday i used my Fedora 40 Warkstation and ran dnf update.
But today when i booting it tell me Your are in emergency mode and root user locked. Cant get console.
I have tried 3 different kernel and rescue mode.
My computer has newest Windows 10 in another ssd.
What should i do to solve this?
If i cant, what should i do to save my file?

Does any of the three kernels boot your system?

no.
3 kernels and rescue option are all emergency mode and i cant get console.

Added boot, dnf, grub, updates and removed question

Well that is not good as this is basically the only emergency backup that dnf Fedora has.

Any more info would be useful.

  • how long did you use that install
  • how did you do the update
  • laptop or pc
  • default filesystem?
  • space left on device?

If you have no other machine, but an Android phone, you can use EtchDroid from f-droid.org to flash a usb drive.

You could use that to save data and reinstall, and I would honestly highly recommend Fedora Atomic Desktops, as I had bad experiences with dnf too.

  • I installed the system in a new disk 20 days ago.
  • I used the command dnf update as root.
  • PC
  • ext 4
  • more than 400 GB

Do you have a LiveUSB you can use to help fix your system.

Hm.

  1. Dont run as root, use sudo
  2. When using ext4 you are deviating from Fedora defaults.

BTRFS can repair filesystem issues thst EXT4 doesnt even detect.

But this may not be a filesystem issue

Very easy to get a root console on most systems.

when booting, at the grub menu, select the kernel to boot then press e to edit the command line
On the line that begins with linux remove the rhgb quiet and add init=/usr/bin/bash
This should boot you directly into a console as root (single user) and allow the commands necessary to recover.

When I booted my system and get the desktop it shows me this:

Does it matter or not?

Added ext4, filesystem and removed grub, Site Help & Feedback, problem

Might want to add your language tag, or change your system language to english

There is a similar report in Nvidia forums that ends with a request for a help finding a reproducible example. Does this occur on every boot? Are you using Wayland?

This seems to be an Nvidia problem outside the control of Fedora, but if it is causing problems in Fedora you should open a new topic so it can be tracked for the benefit of others with the same problem.
