Mediainfo-gui not working with special characters

I’m having an issue with mediainfo-gui only showing a blank page when opening files with certain letters in the filename (non-English letters, emojis, upside down question marks etc) but works fine if the file is renamed. Using mediainfo-qt or the windows version (through wine) works fine on files with those filenames, it’s just the mediainfo-gui version that doesn’t work.

Is there any way to get mediainfo-gui to work with those filenames too? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

To add to this, I found that if I launch mediainfo-gui through the console then it works fine with all filenames. I also found out that it might be a locale issue but my locale.conf is set to LANG=“en_GB.UTF-8” which should be correct?
