Hello folks,
we use CentOs on which Relution(MDM Software) runs. I want to update it but I can’t start it anymore because apparently the java version is no longer updated. How can I update the Java version?
I think people will need more information in order to try and answer this. Could you fill in the following:
- Version of CentOS being used
- Hardware architecture
- Version of Java currently being used
There may be other questions later but that would help start any debugging.

- CentOS Version: CentOS Stream release 8
- Hardware: The maschine is running on a virtual server (with 2 Cores, 4GB RAM)
- unfortunately i don’t even know if java is installed. I have found commands on the net which should output the version. . but these do not work.
By the way, i see CentOS for the first time today. I apologize for any stupid questions…
I have also tried to customize the mirror so that I can run “yum update -y”. However, this no longer works either.
Even after adjusting the link which is in yum-repos.d
CentOS Stream 8 is no longer supported and not a useful target for this kind of work. You would need to either look at Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (or one of its clones like Alma or Rocky) or install CentOS Stream 9.) However looking at the minimum specs from Technical Changelog - Customer Hub you are going to need Java 17 so I would suggest the 9 version of any of those operating systems
Is there any possibility to upgrade the system? or to install java afterwards so that i can use the mdm again?
A migration of the db is currently not possible. and reinstalling is not an option right now.
Centos does not support upgrades to new releases, only updates for the current release.
You will have to make a new VM.
I would make a copy of the virtual machine and see if the Migration Guide | AlmaLinux Wiki works
