I deleted /etc/pam.d/system-auth-ac in the process of trying to fix some PAM errors, and in the process rendered myself unable to log in or use sudo. Is there another way to gain root access so I can recover from this error?

When I booted into single user mode I was able to log in as root and restore the file.
