Hovering over elements randomly stops working

I have had an issue everytime I install fedora 42 KDE on my desktop computer where seemingly out of nowhere, hovering my cursor over elements and clicking on stuff randomly stops working. I have no exact idea what this is caused by as it’s my first time using this operating system in years and even then I had no idea what I was doing. Upon checking for kwin errors in journalctl, I have these errors at the time where the problem starts happening:

lug 29 19:38:22 fedora kwin_wayland[1760]: kf.windowsystem: static bool KX11Extras::mapViewport() may only be used on X11

Is it only with x11 apps?

You can install xeyes to see what windows are x11.

doesn’t seem like it for the most part, discord is the only x11 app that seems to be somewhat buggy but it’s mostly a separate issue with discord itself

I see these at times without app issues. I believe you can ignore them.

Try running journalctl --user -f in a terminal and then use Discord.
Do you see errors when Discord stop working?

I use discord on KDE Plasma and it been working fine for me.

Only thing I know I have to do is update to the lastest released Discord code, which changes often. It’s builtin update logic always hangs for me.

How are you installing Discord?

I am running the linux .tar.gz that I download from Download Discord to Talk, Play, and Hang Out
On that page scroll down to the Download for desktop section, click on Linux and then click on tar.gz. extract the files into a new folder and in there you will find the Discord app.

I installed discord through the command prompt, I believe it’s the flathub version. As I’ve said, issues with discord seem to be relative to itself only ant the main issues are with steam games, but I’ll try to check what happens in journalctl when discord breaks

Maybe you could try the tar.gz version of Discord and see if it works better?

I’ll try and see if that fixes it. I had issues with the flatpak version of steam regarding to secondary ssds not showing up but I figured it was just steam and there weren’t any other buggy apps, maybe it is discord being buggy

I use the RPMfusion version of Steam and have not encounted issues running most games I own.

Sometimes I need to be on real Windows to play a game, but that has not happened in many months. I have forgotten what game that was now.

I have installed the tar.gz version of discord from the official website and it still has issues. Most of what journalctl says is something along the lines of

Unable to find file for pid 1854 expected at "kcrash-metadata/Xwayland.fab56650941246168ee8c8e13976bd6c.1854.ini

but for every app I have open

furthermore, I’m somewhat certain the official version of discord from the website is an x11 app itself as it loads the x11 logo in the task manager when the app first opens

all issues with going back pages in apps still persist as well

gonna add other errors that I believe may actually be the source of my problems:

these are the only errors in red and seem to actually be something that may cause my problem

This is a bug the kde devs have fixed that should show up in the next version of kde. The log can be ignored.

understood, will look if I can find more info

I have found the source of the other issue (I think). Every time I refresh my desktop my keyboard gets automatically set as my mouse and I believe that’s what causes the issue with apps going back one or more pages at random.

edit: it appears I was dead wrong and what I did only delayed the issue

I’m not sure right now if I can call this conclusive but I’ve found that every iso on my ventoy drive seems to result in the same problem with the cursor, even a windows one. for the moment I have re-installed fedora through a simple live media, I’ll try to do some testing the next few hours on my laptop to see if maybe that was somehow causing the issue

coming back to this to say the problem was hardware side, the mouse I had plugged in may have been faulty and the problem stopped once I plugged in another one
