We’ve sit down on feedback mentioned here and created an action plan for us. I would like to share this plan with you so you can give us feedback about missing or wrong ideas from your point.
- Add reclaim space dialog
- Similar to what we had with GTK UI, however, integrated into
Use free space
solution, so you can free up the space easily - First ideas could be found here
- Similar to what we had with GTK UI, however, integrated into
- Make Cockpit Storage less visible option for partitioning and more robust experience
- It should be used only if Guided partitioning is not enough to approach and only by users who understand what they are doing. Based on the feedback above we agreed that we need to make this more obvious by “hiding” Cockpit storage to a less visible place. Exact implementation is not decided yet.
- There is also a discussion to warn user that it might break existing installations.
We also have a list of nice to have things:
- Show existing installed systems in the Anaconda
- This should improve experience of partition mapping and other parts
- Warn user that Windows installation will be deleted/broken
- This should make the dual-boot user experience more robust
- Guide user through dual-boot installation when BitLocker is enabled
- This will improve experience with dual-boot Windows installations
- As mentioned above Linux is currently not able to shrink Windows partitions locked with BitLocker. We need a guide for user to tell them how to do that in Windows
- Reinstall over existing system
- This is great feature but it might need a lot of fine tuning to make it working properly.
