I want a OS that with a replacement of Linux Kernel to Illumos Kernel. Is there any one interested in this project?
What’s wrong with OpenIndiana?
what’s better with Illumos kernel compared to GNU/Linux?
ZFS, Dtrace, Pool and so on…
Oha, that’s a good one.
Though, zfs is available on Fedora and Ubuntu, just not natively.
OpenIndiana has a (mostly) GNU userland, although you’ll have to roll your own DE unless you want to use MATE and is fully IllumOS/OpenSolaris.
I totally get wanting the Solaris features, as Linux is, decades later, just starting to catch up to it.
But maybe it makes more sense to use OpenIndiana (or one of the other Illumos-based distributions) and bring over the user/system tools (where possible) you want from Fedora instead of trying to fit the square peg of an Illumos kernel into the round hole of a Fedora system/userland.
Given how long its taken just to have a stable ZFS on Linux (ZoL), porting GNU/Linux tools to Illumos probably makes more sense than going the other way, no?
Or am I missing something important here?
I had found that NexentaOS could combine the OpenSolaris Kernel and Ubuntu Application successfully, so I want the same thing on Fedora with OpenSolaris Kernel or Illumos Kernel. Thanks!
Sounds like a good idea. I volunteer to be a beta tester once you’ve made it happen!
