F41 Kernel Update to 6.12.8-200 Breaks Initramfs/Initrd

Greetings,

I’m fairly new to Fedora and just getting back into Linux after a long hiatus so not sure if this is a bug or something to do with my particular system.

In any event, I ran regular updates yesterday evening using dnf in terminal and installed the latest kernel, 6.12.8-200. After the update I left the computer running but this morning decided to reboot into the new kernel as I was curious if the nvidia proprietary driver would work on the new kernel. Long story short, the new kernel failed to boot and dumps me into an emergency shell after entering the LUKS password. The system generated rdsosreport.txt and here are few lines from the end where I think the problem is.

Initrd seems to be having a problem but I don’t know why. I can reboot using kernel 6.12.7-200 from the GRUB menu and the system works normally.

As background, I am running a dual boot Win11/F41 system using bitlocker and LUKS respectfully.

Anyone else having this issue or have advice on troubleshooting?

Many Thanks,

Gary

In doing some additional research I came across this:

I had done the same modification to enable Timeshift btrfs snapshots to work. Seems to break updates that way. When I changed the subvolume names back to Fedora defaults it booted into 6.12.8-200 no issues.

Broke Timeshift by changing the subvolume names so will try to fix that now and switch to rsync.

Will leave this up as a cautionary tale for others.
