External display not suspend when I close the lid of the laptop

Hi guys! I have a trouble with external hdmi display, suspond mode when laptop’s lid is closed. I use extended main display to external monitor. Laptop suspend when I close the lid without external display connected, but not suspend when external display connected: main screen going off and external staying main, when I close the lid. I’ve tried different variations of logind.conf.

I use Fedora 34. Please help me.

Hi @grsm For this one you should file a bug at https://bugzilla.redhat.com.
And in the mean time close Fedora before closing your laptop if necessary.
It would be great if we knew the build and properties of your laptop, that makes it easier to find a solution.

This is actually by design in GNOME. See Allow suspend with external monitor connected (#111) · Issues · GNOME / gnome-settings-daemon · GitLab. The idea is that the common situation is that you’re at your desk, perhaps a docking station, and want to close the laptop so it’s out of the way — but still use the external monitor.

You can still suspend manually using Suspend on the system menu, or with the power button (assuming you have it configured to suspend rather than power off).

Thx Mattew, I fix it via combining IgnoreLid=true and HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend.
