I was using Extension-Manager, but I kept finding that the extensions (ApplicationsMenu and HotEdge) had been switched off (at the main switch), so I switched to Extensions. It still happens though less frequently. My machine sometimes fails to boot, I wonder whether it might be related to that, however it should be able to deal with it.
From what I know, if gnome-shell crashes, the default behaviour is to disable any extensions to try to get gnome-shell to start correctly the next time. So, when you say your computer “sometimes fails to boot”, at what stage is this?
Also—are all extensions turned off or only these?
I don’t know which stage, it usually scrolls a load of text up the screen which I think refers to ongoing boot processes. I’ll try and be more precise if and when it does it again.
All the extensions are turned off, because the main switch marked “Extensions” at the top of the Extensions window gets turned off.
yeh, that’s probably as a result of a gnome-shell crash. Take a look at your logs, that may give some info on what’s happening:
I’ll have a look at the logs later. All the other applications survive this, so it seems odd that “Extensions” doesn’t.
Hrm, yes, but I’m afraid it’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on without more information. So please do let us know when you’ve had a chance to look at the logs (and paste any relevant bits here too) and we can drill down more to see what the issue here is.

I don’t see anything there. We need logs that note some sort of crash, probably in gnome-shell. Something like:
journalctl -b --grep=gnome
but use the -b
to provide the particular boot where you noticed your issue.
I’ve just noticed your comment - thanks, but i’ve since abandoned Vivaldi for other reasons and I’ve installed Fedora-39 Beta.
