Error splicing file: input/output error when copying multiple files

I try to copy pictures and videos from either DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro to a folder onto my laptop.

I get the following error:
Error splicing file: input/output error

The error shows only when I select 3+ files, where the MP4 file (H.265) is 100MB+ in size.
When I select multiple pics, no matter the number, there is no issue as they’re not over 100MB each.
When I copy 1 file (MP4) or 2 files at the same time (LRF and MP4) there is no issue.

Dmesg:
[ 8089.983361] device offline error, dev sdb, sector 0 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0x800 phys_seg 1 prio class 2
[ 8089.983363] Buffer I/O error on dev sdb, logical block 0, lost sync page write

The target folder on my laptop is an NVMe disk.
System: Fedora 41 + Gnome DE
Window manager: Files

I read in multiple posts, this is an issue with a faulty hard drive, but this is a relatively new laptop, so I hardly doubt that. Plus I would expect the same error if I copy 1 large file, f.e. MP$ of 1GB or more, which is not the case.

Anybody any ideas?
In case you need more info, please let me know.

First check that the disk is healthy, and make sure you have uncorrupted backups.
Disk errors can show up in very transient/odd scenarios before they become critical and take the system down.
You can use e.g. smartctl and nvme specific tools to ask the drive’s firmware if there are any errors and if the self-check tests pass.

But before anything, if there’s even a suspicion that your drive is faulty, make sure you have backups.
