Custom distro

Guys, I am thinking of creating a custom linux os by forking core parts from RHEL10. Idea is of not breaking user experience like some do by releasing new versions only for sake of new versions.

This how it will work:

  1. Fork core parts from rhel and develop and optimize, unified approach like freebsd and others

  2. core part will be immutable and managed by libostree

  3. pkg manager which will not require much change from upstream, no complex packaging format, no FHS. pkg will support virtual environments like conda with container tech or not ?, still undecided

  4. Focused on stability, reliability, efficiency and ease of use

  5. updates are only pushed when necessary, on obligation to launch another version every 6 months like gnome.

  6. just fork it and optimize

Give me suggestions and thumbs up if you like the idea ?

My suggestion would be to get involved with one of our SIGs Special Interest Groups here, and contribute to one of our existing Spins to make it better.
We have many Spins that could use a hand.

Or maybe have a look at using / contributing to Universal Blue’s Bluefin LTS?
