Control Nvidia GPU fans

Good evening.

I have an Aorus RTX 2080 Xtreme GPU with proprietary drivers installed from RPM Fusion, but when I go into the Nvidia Settings application to configure the fan speed, it won’t let me do it. I try to activate the checkbox and it immediately deactivates. I’ve tried every method I’ve found online, but none of them have worked. I hope someone here can help me.

Thanks.

In most cases there is no need to manually control fan speed.
Only if the gpu overheats would that be necessary.

I have an RTX 3050 and the temps normally run about 60 C on that at about 95% GPU utilization with cuda apps.

You can monitor the GPU temps with installing lm_sensors and using the sensors command, or with a gui by also installing gkrellm. The command sensors-detect helps to identify the sensors on your system and saves the config for later use.

It needs root perms

sudo nvidia-settings
