Claiming device ElanTech Fingerprint Sensor failed

Hi,

I have an Asus ZenBook 14" UX3402ZA with an Elan fingerprint :

llaumgui@stargazer ~> lsusb | grep -i finger
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 04f3:0c6e Elan Microelectronics Corp. ELAN:Fingerprint

The fingerprint 04f3:0c6e seem to be supported. But, on GNOME Settings, when I want to use register a finger, I have a message:

Claiming device ElanTech Fingerprint Sensor failed:
GDBus.Error:net.reactivated.Fprint.Error.AlreadyInUse: Device was already claimed

Any idea ?

Same problem, same driver ID, did you find a way to fix this

Seems to be something related to the BIOS for fingerprint readers that read you fingerprint while you are pressing the power button and automatically log in on Windows. You need to disable this feature in the BIOS, otherwise the BIOS will “claim” the device.

So if you’re not using Windows, but want to use the fingerprint reader, you need to:

  • Disable “Predesktop Authentication” in BIOS (Security → Fingerprint)
  • Reset Fingerprint Data in BIOS (Security → Fingerprint)
