No matter what I do I can’t get windows 11 to install on a VM. When I boot I’m stuck at the “Tiano Core” logo after booting the CD. I have spent hours looking for the problem online. Any one know what the problem is?
I believe in the initial VM setup before one actually starts the install there is an option to create a ‘virtual TPM’ module with VMM (emulated) or to the actual module (passthrough). This seems likely to be the problem if you have not done that.
Note the “Customize Configuration before install” checkbox
Which then allows access to this page
Never mind, the ISO I was using was broken. I have fixed it but a new problem arises. When I try to install the ISCI diver I get this.
When I test installed Windows 11 on my VM today I did not need to select an iscsi driver. It just worked.
What are you doing or using that requires that driver be selected?
I suspect the OP didn’t mean iSCSI (SCSI over internet).
I’m using the VirtIO Disk Bus type. It’s for paravirtualization.
This should help to see what I;m doing if you’v never hear of it.
EDIT: Here is another resource
OK I fixed it by get ANOTHER new iso, however I have this when I run my VM,
libvirt.libvirtError: internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor
here is my xml file

I have OpenGL and qemu enabled BTW
Try with QXL instead of virtio. Windows doesn’t support virtio 3D acceleration anyways.
QXL has a driver in the virtio ISO that you have, load that too.
If you want 3D acceleration in Windows, you should try GPU passthrough or intel GVT-g.
Edit: QXL provides 2D (not 3D) acceleration, hence the need for GPU passthrough.
OK so I think I found a work around but I can’t get steam to open in a VM. Any ideas why?
Probably because you have no 3D acceleration, read my previous answer. If you’re planning to play on Windows (in a VM), you should use a GPU passthrough setup.
Why don’t you use steam on Linux? With lutris and proton a lot of games work (I haven’t tried any myself).
This time it is a Linux VM (I’m just doing at this point because I’m persistent) BUT I’m getting the same error. Also RS-IOV seems to be different.
(1.3.3)
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/QEMU/Guest_graphics_acceleration#NVIDIA_vGPU
I doubt NVIDIA vGPU would work since it is meant for enterprises. Did you try GPU PCI passthrough? Last time I tried I went as far as Windows detecting the GPU, installing the driver then failing to load it… The issue I had was that I was unable to get the vBIOS of the GPU thanks to HP embedding it in their BIOS.
I think your reading “1.3.2” I’m saying “1.3.3”
And BTW yes I did a pass through but because I’m trying GPU virtualization because I found this page and it looks interesting to try SR-IOV.
