Browser Brave

I’m using Fedora Workstation 43 Beta, installed browser brave and when I open window freeze.

Just use Firefox.

I have not tried brave, but chrome works fine in f43

Hi,

What I would do is to remove it, remove it’s config and install a previous release, then freeze it. Mine was installed in june 24 and set never to be updated.

Excluding a browser from updates is a bad idea as it weakens security of the browser

It also prevents a software publisher to push compulsory nasty stuff onto us.

I have frozen browsers on Windows 7 for years and nothing ever happened to me. Did the same with Win XP, which I patched for TLS 1.2 back in time.

All in all, always did that since Firefox 3.6.28, which I still run for stuff on my LAN.

Examples of nasty stuff they do:

They patched VLC to spy on us.

They installed a backdoor in XZutils.

They put a keylogger into CCleaner. I noticed immediately, It had a TSR active.

I just gave it a try on my system with Fedora 43 and I wasn’t able to recreate the issue. I used Brave 1.83.112 flathub version. If you use RPM version let me know and I’ll give it another try.

I use brave on laptop with Fedora 43, but I installed iso F40 with brave and update F41>F42 and now F43, brave is fine. On my desktop, I installed F43 with wayland gnome 49. I think this problem is wayland, brave not works with wayland only.

If you don’t trust Brave, what are you doing using their browser?

I’d sooner assume Firefox to increase telemetry/AI and deserving of a lock before a browser that claims to be better than others in similar regards.

Wayland shouldn’t be a problem. I have used Brave with Wayland for years by setting the ozone platform flags.

That’s really terrible for security.

Try to install Fedora Workstation 43 in boxes and install brave browser for test. This Fedora (gnome) use only wayland.
