Audio outputs to 'Dummy Output' instead 'Intel Onboard Audio'

I cant hear any audio. I use snd_hda_intel module to hear audio through my onboard speakers of my XPS 13 9370. Installed alsa-firmware, updated, rebooted. Nothing has solved it. It worked before I connected my bluetooth headphones, then I disconnected from the headphones and I cant use my onboard audio.

But it did not help. I still have Dummy Output when I reboot the machine.

Did you also try resetting that PCI device as described in comment #20 of that bug report?

Made this shell script that does it automatically, kept running it 5 or 6 times. Dmesg always ended up looking like this:

I reinstalled Fedora Linux 39 Workstation Edition. This time I have the problem from the beginning. I check uefi and my onboard sound is enabled. Since pipewire is the default on Fedora, I am not going to install pulseaudio.

2/1/24 update:
Went to GitHub - thesofproject/sof-bin: Firmware and topology binaries and installed every intel sof codec to my system. My dmesg looks very different now, and I see ‘Speakers - Built-in Audio’ in the sound settings.

However, audio is still not playing through Built-In Audio.
I still would like to troubleshoot this problem. Here is the results of alsa-info.sh

For the audio driver,
Currently you are running snd_hda_intel, which is a legacy driver.

Can have a try with SOF driver:
In etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Add one line:
options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=3

Then reboot and double check the PC10 status.

Have you tried using the newer “SOF driver”?

Beyond that, all I can suggest is to search kernel.org for your hardware once in a while and see if there is any chatter about it from the developers. Here is an example search: site:kernel.org “Dell XPS 13 93” sound. Generally, the posts with the newest timestamps will be the most interesting.

I also have the problem of “no sound through onboard speakers” since a couple of weeks.

I’ll try the “SOF” driver, but I don’t know what I’m doing / where to get started. In case somebody has a couple of more steps how to go about that.

I’ve tried to switch by:

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=3

sudo dracut -f
reboot

But it didn’t help

There is a post in another thread stating that there is a known problem with the sound drivers in 6.10.8+ kernels that has been affecting Fedora Linux users in recent days. If you are running a 6.10.8+ kernel, you might want to try rebooting and selecting an older kernel from your boot menu.
