I recently purchased an Alienware M18 R1 AMD laptop and installed Fedora 40 Linux on it. I have encountered an issue that I had not noticed initially where no “input” sources show up in the Gnome settings. Audio output options are present, and sound works very well on the laptop. Specifically, I was expecting the microphone to show up and work, but it doesn’t.
The embedded audio card appears to be the ALC3254 Analog. I searched for similar challenges and the only action that made sense to take was to add the following to the end of the grub configuration to ensure that any Intel audio driver detections did not interfere:
snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0
This seemed to have no impact. The detected audio controller is “Family 17h/19h HD Audio Controller Analog Stereo [vol: 1.00]”.
I’ve searched through Fedora information to see if I can find any similar scenarios, but nothing turned up in the searches I attempted.
Is anyone aware of an issue specific to the microphone being unavailable when sound is working otherwise? Some system information is below.
