On the latest Fedora 40 with everything updated. I am on the Acer Swift X16 AMD with the 7940HS. This CPU has been nothing but problems setting up to use on linux. On wake from longer sleep periods, the screen is full white and the computer is unresponsive. I have to hold the power button for what feels like 30 seconds to hard power off the system.
This is reminiscent of the bug in other builds. The solution was setting scatter gather support for the amd driver to 0 on boot.
From what I know from a similar Laptop, support 780M (RDNA3) is very sketchy on Linux.
Did you try the bleeding edge Fedora? It’s called rahwide and I believe it uses the latest Linux Kernel 6.9-rc6, which is bleeding edge.
Even so, the laptop didn’t boot any Linux distro at all, except by setting nomodeset (software video) on the GRUB2 boot parameters (e and then add after rghb or splahs on other distros).
The issue with reporting a crash is that it doesn’t appear in the error stack. It is just a white screen upon waking from deep sleep. Sometimes the mouse will still appear and be responsive. The screen will flash like theres a white layer on top of everything while you move the mouse until you hard reset the computer. I am on kernel 6.8.8-300fc. It’s really sad as Fedora is the only distro that seems to have my mic working too.

Can you try an older kernel. reboot into one of the other ones you might have. If you don’t know how t do this please let us know to guide you through.
Yes, I can devote a little more time chasing this behavior. I updated to rawhide and confirm the behavior exists on the latest build, including bleeding edge. Please advise on how to downgrade kernels and requested version, I only seem to have one option at the moment.
I still cannot readily force the behavior to happen so I cannot figure out what exactly causes the screen output to behave this way.
From what I can gather, this isn’t a Fedora issue per-se, so much as a driver that’s in very active development in the kernel for newer gen Radeon. Kernel-6.9 is coming soon (it’s currently in rc7) and it looks like improved support for the amdgpu for newer GPUs is one of the top items:
Update on the bug. I was able to recreate it by plugging in my power supply to the laptop. The external display remained functional. Only the built in display goes white. The mouse can still be moved on top of this white layer however.
