AMD 9070XT not supporting all capable monitor resolutions

Hello,

I have a system with a AMD 9070XT that is not showing all resolutions and refresh rates that the monitor is capable of while is connected through the HDMI. The monitor in question is a Samsung Odyssey G9 57" capable of a maximum resolution of 7680x2160@240. This issue only manifest while I connect through the HDMI, when I connected through the DisplayPort there are no issues. I have replace cables and moved ports but the issue persists. This issue is not present when I use the system with Windows OS.

I maybe wrong, but I don’t think HDMI can support that high a resolution and refresh rate.

DP is always the best connection to use as it has the super set of the capabilities of all other connect types.

I don’t believe that will be the case unless the OS is not capable to support that high resolution/refresh rate. Both monitor, Cable and GPU are HDMI 2.1a supported.

The resolution is also has a max to 4k 16:9 60hz / 1080p 21:9 60hz.

When I install Windows OS it works perfectly fine and have all available resolution and high refresh rate through HDMI.

The reason why I will like to check if there is a solution to this is because this system will become a home theater PC connected to a high refresh TV.

Check the EDID that the monitor returns on each cable.
Is it the same on DP and HDMI connections?

EDID output is different from DP and HDMI.

That is the explanation. It is the monitor’s firmware that reports the different capabilities. Nothing to do with the GPU or OS software.

You will need to use DP with that monitor to get the full range of features.

This System will become a home theater PC connected to a TV.

I was able to test on a Sony Bravia with a maximum resolution 3840 x 2160@120.

I was able to get the resolution but not the refresh rate. It was only able to use 60hz max.

I also installed Windows 11 for testing and it automatically set the resolution 7680x2160@240, so I don’t believe is the monitor firmware, cables or the PC hardware.
