Something that I struggle with a lot when I started using linux was to see the list of packages and not knowing what each package was. With time, software stores like “Gnome Software” and “Discover” have made this easier, but I still found issues with finding good games and post them.
So, I have an idea, not sure if someone follows but what if we create a thread listing games on Fedora. I can come up with a template to use to highlight the most relevant information but before going on with something like this, I want to know if people could be interested on something like this
I play OpenRCT2 quite a lot (https://openrct2.io) on Fedora, but you still have to own the classic RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 or original to play it. The community is working on a full re-implementation of the games so you don’t need the original game files anymore!
Bookmarking this, I don’t use my Linux PC for gaming atm cause I have a 7 year old HP laptop on Windows that I use for my games but that PC is on it’s way to being totally cooked so I might wanna consider looking back on this soon LOL
Gonna throw in my own small list of games that can be played on Fedora:
Buckshot Roulette
Team Fortress 2
Stardew Valley
Terraria
Edit: Little semi-unrelated rant but I’m kinda disappointed that Roblox, after all these years, still doesn’t have Linux support. For a platform that was originally meant to encourage children to learn to code, you’d think they would make Roblox officially available on Linux systems lol. But I know it mainly has to do with the minimal demand for it and the fact that Roblox is heavy on the anti-cheat systems and the Windows API dependency.
In that case, pretty much every game works. I use Lutris to manage WINE for games and around 95% of games work. 80% of games work without a WINE trick or some other fix.
Personally, I buy games from GOG.com. They sell Linux games - the only problem I have found with that is that most of them are made in Unity, which as it is so easy to use that the coders making the games often don’t bother to optimize them so my little machine runs really hot on even 2d games.
I understand Steam and Proton work really well, but I will not use the proprietary and DRM encumbered constantly updating always online system.
My favourite games I play on Fedora (with Lutris under WINE): Fallout 3 and Skyrim.
