A long-time Ubuntu user, I had a ten-year sojourn with MacOS, before returning to the Linux desktop. I’m currently trying a few distros while I wait for a new laptop (I set up my MacBook Pro sans functioning keyboard with Zorin OS as a partially cobbled desktop.)
Fedora 35 is currently running in a VM, and I’m very pleased with the experience, especially the inclusion of vanilla Gnome, Flatpak, newer applications, and the way Fedora handles updates.
In contrast, both Ubuntu 20.04 and Zorin 16 are running outdated software, and really don’t suit a modern desktop (I’ll continue using Ubuntu LTS for server applications.) Ubuntu 22.04 is a possibility, but the release date coincides with Fedora 36. Neither are likely to support a couple of apps I rely on for a couple of months or so.
I’ve joined the forum to unlearn apt and get my head around the differences presented by Fedora, and to learn about the upgrade process.
