Description

This Copr carries the XLibre X11 server and the compatible X11 drivers from the X11Libre GitHub project.

Status:

• ☒ Rawhide (Fedora 44): built, needs testing
• ☒ Branched (Fedora 43): built, needs testing
• ☑ Fedora 42: built, tested, working

Third-party drivers, NOT provided by XLibre:

• ☑ xf86-video-openchrome (from X.Org/freedesktop.org): available in this repository (upstream source recompiled against XLibre)
• ☐ xf86-video-armada (from git.arm.linux.co.uk): not yet available in this repository (does not compile)

Installation Instructions

Enable the Copr (see "Quick Enable" in the sidebar) and run updates the usual way (DNF or any of the GUIs). XLibre will automatically replace X.Org X11.

I regret to advise that this does not install for me on Fedora 43 using Cinnamon. Too many package conflicts with version mismatches. Tried having --skip-broken and it just led to my system’s LightDM getting disabled and AMDGPU disappearing without the available XLibre equivalent (refused to install). Though I personally find the XLibre project titillating, and sincerely appreciate the existence of this COPR repo, it would appear that Xorg reigns supreme on Fedora.

Personally I’m using AlmaLinux and last time I checked in a Fedora VM, it worked there.

I have now fixed the issue. The requirements in the newer drivers had changed, which I hadn’t updated in the xlibre-xserver spec file.

If you upgrade/install now, it should work. Let me know if you have any further problems.

I have upgraded some packages, which should solve the problem.

Can you try installing xlibre with the following command:
sudo dnf install xlibre-xserver xlibre-xf86-input-libinput --allowerasing --refresh

If it doesn’t work send me the output here.

xlibre should perfectly support the newest nvidia drivers and cuda.

Can you send me the link to the repo you are using? then i will make the necessary changes to the spec file

Worked fine. just installed intel and nvidea drivers also. is there a way to separate install?

Break it down to AMD GPU drivers / intel / nvidea (open) and let people install what they need, i had issue with xlibre on artix linux due to trying to use other drivers etc and games would not launch etc

That’s a Fedora thing, for instance when I install Fedora on an Nvidia GPU it also installs AMD drivers.

If you remove the drivers and install Xlibre it should omit the dependencies for those.

You should also be able to remove packages that you don’t need.

so you mean that all drivers get installed when you install xlibre? we shouldnt pull in all drivers as the xorg package does - only if the xorg driver package is installed in advance and you run dnf upgrade . if you try to remove remove the driver you dont need, then what error do you get ?

The Nvidia Xorg libs from RPM Fusion Nonfree repo doesn’t seem to compatible with XLibre copr, as the said package specifically asks for the original Xorg packages:

Proceed to install with --allowerasing would remove the package and cause it not to load the gpu drivers and such.
