I totally agree with the first part. Yeah, our processes are full of tools that were meant to be temporary fixes.
We have discussed this in person multiple times, and I really don’t want the team to add another temporary fix that ends up becoming permanent.
Why I think this is different from for example toddlers in Fedora Infra is that both Forgejo and Gitea already have active requests for this feature. We are in a great position to take the lead, implement it together with upstream, and benefit from the result.
I am so serious about avoiding permanent temporary solutions that I will make this promise: if one year after introducing any temporary fix it is still in production, I will open and try to eat a can of Surströmming in my study during the next Early Social Hour.
