where is the right place to ask about changing the time in between versions?
i wishes that Fedora Atomic (silverblue & kinote) and Fedora Workstation for the reasons it is a bit fast for “office use” and app’s like BlackPoint that is used here on these 3 versions of Fedora.
Ofc we already do the un-even version numbers. But it would be nice if the version releases was slowed down to 12 months instead at least.
Cuz Fedora is our “new” company OS instead of Windows.
If you only want to update every 12 months you can do that.
It would mean that you always upgrade over 2 versions, that is supported.
Maybe CentOS Stream is a candidate if you want something Fedora-based but with a longer version lifecycle.
At the beginning of time when Fedora was first branched out from RedHat (2003) the decision was made to provide new releases approximately every 6 months and that plan has been in place ever since.
As noted by Barry above it is quite reasonable to do an update every 12 months (or every second release version).
Since that is also the time when the version you would be replacing is nearing EOL and the newly released version you are installing is very new and may contain bugs; it seems to me a better choice to do updates to the next release every 6 months, and only do so just before your current version reaches EOL. This would mean that most bugs that were found with a newly released version have had almost 6 months to be identified and fixed.
Updating at the 12 month interval to the newest release would mean you might be impacted by new bugs in the new release before they have been identified and fixed.
For example, if you are currently running f43, it would near EOL in November 2026, while f44 would have already had about 6 months of use and bug fixes so would be very stable. Upgrading at that time to f45 at its release date (October 2026) would be a very new release and likely contain bugs.
In the interest of stability I would use a 6 month upgrade cycle but do so at near the EOL of the current version I was running and only upgrade by one release version each time
