Wifi (Network Manager) takes time (5mins +) to figure out the strongest signal

I am on a shared network and I am not able to connect top the router closest to me on switching wifi on and off, on my phone or windows this is straight forward. Not sure why this works different on this platform. I have to restart if I want to get the strongest connection, this is especially frustrating when I have to move around with my laptop because I always connect to a weaker connection when I sit down. It takes a few minutes before the strongest signal is connected.

FYI fedora’s virtual IP adress is great for connecting to a shared network

You can connect to a specific AP/router by its BSSID:

nmcli device wifi rescan
nmcli device wifi list
nmcli device wifi connect BSSID

This setting can be persistent:

nmcli connection show
nmcli connection modify CONNECTION wifi.bssid BSSID
nmcli connection up CONNECTION

Ok, will it stay locked to that BSSID,
, in case i need troubleshooting and how do I see the curentylyu connected router

nmcli dev wifi list and look for the asterisk on the left marking the in use router.

It should stay connected, but sometimes drops and you have to manually connect again.

okay seen it, the problem is that it is connecting to the router with the highest bit rate instead of strongest signal, the current connected signal is at 52

52 signal is fine, you want the higer bitrate.

Do you have two BSSID with the same name?

no, the routers are pretty weak, and in other rooms at 54 u barely even get 10% of the standard bit rate

it keeps dropping , restarting is what seems to fix, although it is frustrating.

The solution works, although an eaiser way than using the terminal is needed
