Wi-Fi not working after system update on Fedora 43 with Intel 8265/8275

Hi everyone,

After a system update on Fedora 43, my Intel Wireless 8265/8275 Wi-Fi card stopped working. Wi-Fi works perfectly in the Fedora 43 live installation environment.

Problem:

  • The interface wlp2s0 is recognized by the iwlwifi driver but cannot be activated
  • Scanning for networks fails (nmcli device wifi list shows nothing)
  • NetworkManager shows the Wi-Fi interface as disconnected/unavailable
  • rfkill list shows no soft or hard block

System details:

  • Kernel: 6.17.5-300.fc43.x86_64
  • Firmware: iwlwifi-36.ucode (from linux-firmware)

Already tried:

  • Disabled Secure Boot
  • Reloaded drivers (modprobe -r iwlwifi iwlmvmmodprobe iwlwifi)
  • Set regulatory domain to DE (iw reg set DE)
  • Restarted NetworkManager
  • Reinstalled firmware package (dnf reinstall linux-firmware)

Question:
Is there a known solution or workaround to get Intel 8265/8275 Wi-Fi working after a system update on Fedora 43, like it does in the live installation environment?

What does inxi -N show for the driver in use?

You may have to install inxi with sudi dnf install inxi

inxi -N
Network:
Device-1: Intel Ethernet I219-LM driver: e1000e
Device-2: Intel Wireless 8265 / 8275 driver: iwlwifi

That should work…

There are new kernels out since you posted so try a

sudo dnf update

and see if it is fixed.

Wifi problems are not unusual after linux updates, so I find it necessary to have a USB WiFi dongle while waiting for a fix. Sometimes firmware gets into a bad state and may need a power off reset (vendor dependent).

Try adding -v to get more details from modprobe iwlwifi.
