This is a problem that has occurred on my computer (see some system characteristics at the bottom of the post) also on other Linux distributions I’ve tried (Zorin OS, Tails, Linux Mint Cinnamon): basically, the system manages to connect to the Wi-Fi network whose SSID is “[ISPName]_[numbers and letters]_5G” (I don’t know if the “5G” at the end actually stands for “5G connection” or not, anyway…) but not to the “[…]_2.4G” network (I need to use the 2.4G as the other network is really slow and sometimes unstable on in my case, even on Windows). The system asks me for the password for the connection, I enter it (it is undoubtedly correct), it loads for a while, and then the pop-up asking me for the password reappears. I’ve also tried removing the password from the modem settings but it won’t connect even if the network doesn’t have it. If I search for updates, the system says it is up to date.
The problem has never occurred on Windows 10.
An interesting point is that when I tried Linux Mint the problem occurred BUT in that case I was able to go into Mint’s network settings and manually enter the network SSID, the Channel (I used “11 (2.462 Mhz)”) to connect to, the Band (it was “B/G (2.4 Ghz)”), the Mode and the Wi-Fi password, and then it worked, it connected to the network.
On Fedora I can’t find the options that are present on Mint (probably there is a different way to set them…?) and Mint is the only Linux OS on which the “[…] 2.4G” network connected properly.
Computer characteristics:
Fedora Linux KDE Plasma Desktop (latest version available) installed on HDD in Dual-Boot with Windows 10 on SSD.
All updates were made following the installation of the operating system.
For sure I have forgotten something, if more details are needed please do not hesitate to ask me!
I thank in advance anyone who can help me, I am not a Linux expert, I am still trying to find a good Linux distribution to use to avoid Windows 11 and Fedora seemed good.
