Why nautilus is not sorting by filename?

In list mode, after clicking on the Name column, the is a file started with ‘0’ between ‘1’ & ‘2’.

Check if the issue persists if you change the working directory to where the files are located.

Yes, same issue after changing the working directory to “2019Week16”

There are other files “sorted wrongly” as well, as compared to output of ls -1

$ ls -1

Nautilus sorts them ‘numerically’, so 1something and 01something sort at the same level.

If that is the case, why the first entry is ‘0c’?

Because that’s 0?

As per the developer, this is a by design feature.

  • nautilus will extract the leading number part and sort it numberically - so leading zeros are ignore.
  • then the remianing part in ascii order.
