When i am typing, if I delete some text (i.e. after a typo) it deletes the space before the word, moving cursor to the end of the previous word, forcing me to have to hit space every time. Not sure if I explained it well, example, let’s say I type:
Hello my name is Nike
I then see the typo, having meant to type ‘Mike’, so I hit backspace on keyboard to delete all letters including the ‘N’. As I hit that last delete, instead of the cursor being ready to type ‘Mike’, it’s sat back next to the ‘s’ of ‘is’. So I end up typing ‘Hello my name isMike’.
VERY annoying, enough to explain and ask here! Any ideas why it’s doing this, seems new as I don’t recall this behaviour until recently! (Happens system wide, in browsers etc)
thanks
This is not something I’ve seen luckily, it would really irk me .
Can you please provide more information on your system/configuration? This command should provide the basics:
fpaste --sysinfo-short --printonly
Does this happen everywhere, or is it only happening in particular apps? Can you please create a new user and see if the issue persists—that’ll tell us if it’s a system wide issue or some issue with the configs for your particular user.
I cannot reproduce the issue. Assuming your display name is correct it appears you are on Workstation using gnome, though you do not say explicitly what apps it appears in but only that it happens system wide.
It is critical that you know exactly how many characters to backspace. If, for example, the cursor is placed immediately after the ‘e’ in ‘Nike’ it would require exactly 4 backspace strokes. If you already had a space following 'Nike ’ it would require 5 backspace strokes.
I often see similar as my hands are not quite as responsive as they were many years back and I have to look at the results before I begin typing again. As a result I have begun using the arrow keys to move the cursor so I can replace one letter instead of a full word or line.
It was doing it for at least a week or two, but I can’t reproduce it either now! It was mainly in Brave browser that I noticed it, but I felt sure it was doing it in emails too (Thundercrap :D)
Sorry everyone, if it comes back I will post again but maybe it was a weird little bug that’s gone away on its own. Almost more frustrating than troubleshooting it!
