Weak wifi signal and downloading problem

Hello everyone, I’ve just migrated from windows 11 to Fedora KDE 42 on my laptop, so bare with me for my noob questions.
I’m having problems with my wifi signal, it’s low even though my modem is pretty close, and I’m having a hard time downloading files from internet. What could be the problem? drivers? How can I check it? Thanks.

Many Fedora users are not seeing WiFi problems, so we need to figure out what is different about your system. The problem could be with outdated software, issues with the regulatory domain at your location, buggy driver module, the WiFi hardware, or your WiFi configuration. You should make an effort to ensure that your system is fully updated (including vendor firmware) so you aren’t chasing a solved problem. It would be useful to know if your WiFi works better with a different modem.

If you can provide the output from running inxi -Fzxx (as pre-formatted text using the </> button) that will allow others with similar hardware and issues to find this topic. Getting multiple reports of an issue help get the attention of developers.

Sometimes “volunteers” have provided fixes for driver modules that have problems.

You should scan the LHBD for your system model and WiFi hardware. Some WiFi hardware lacks robust linux support, in which case you may find that many similar systems are using alternate WiFi hardware.

There are often problems with linux WiFi after installing updates. From decades of linux experience I have found it important to have a USB WiFi dongle for use while troubleshooting. See: https://github.com/morrownr/USB-WiFi for USB WiFi with good in-kernel support.
