Was Seahorse replaced in Gnome 48 / Fedora 42?

Hi all,

I updated yesterday to Fedora 42, as always the update was super smooth. The only problem I faced was that my Gnome Online Accounts stopped working. After a quick check I found the reason, the Gnome password and key manager (seahorse) has been removed during the update from Fedora 41 to 42. After reinstalling it everything works fine again.

Still, I wonder if this was a small update bug or is Gnome/Fedora in the process of replacing seahorse with something else?

IMO GNOME/Fedora didn’t replace Seahorse, given that it wasn’t in the base install in the previous Fedora versions either.

Seahorse is a front-end to GNOME Keyring, and the Fedora systems with GNOME desktop should work without it being installed.

Maybe the app has been removed during the system upgrade because of some dependecy check?

I am not sure what happened, but in a default install, the graphical user interface seahorse (“Keyrings and passwords”) is not installed in Fedora. I can confirm this as I am currently on a fresh installation of Fedora 42. The underlying infrastructure remains the same, though.
If you had Seahorse installed, it should in principle be preserved on an upgrade. Perhaps a bug or issue during upgrade indeed?
