NETGEAR required User Agreement (that no one reads) for using their new routers includes the following. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU AVOID NETGEAR PRODUCTS (can you say: Big Brother?):
Personally I’ve used OPNsense on an old Optiplex for years and it works great. I use TP Link Omada for my WiFi APs and while it doesn’t integrate with OPNsense in any meaningful way, it all “just works”.
I use a GL.iNet device since it ships with their own OpenWrt based image, so I reckon the device should work well with upstream OpenWrt. And because I want to customize the package selection, I build custom images in a GitLab CI pipeline, using OpenWrt’s image builder. Overall, I am pretty happy with the setup.
I use DD-WRT; I get lower LAN pings to my router (0.2-0.3ms) vs OpenWRT snapshots (0.4-0.6ms)
Any routers those projects mention will likely be good! I have a NETGEAR router though I like NETGEAR routers for nmrpflash (easier/more consistent than tftp with Linksys)
I use a MikroTik CRS326-24G-2S+RM with RouterOS. I’m verry happy with it. You have a cli terminal like configuration interface similar to cisco’s IOS. I use vlans and different Subnets on the different vlans with different security levels. IPv6 with Prefix Delegation behind a FritzBox was no problem to configure. I have no idea what the fine print says.
huscape, Thank you so kindly. I have ordered the GL.iNet MT6000, with plans to install stock OpenWrt as per angel96. I will keep your suggestion for future reference. Thank you : )
I also use mikrotik, it is not open, for using it you need a license which you purchase with the product.
However reselling it makes the need of transferring the license, which is not always possible (re purchase a new one is needet).
Done. There normally is a pencil icon next to the title when you hover the mouse over it, but editing the title might require TL2 (and you are still TL1).
