I’m scared of pausing when watching a video on VLC! After I play, the sound doesn’t exist. I have to close the video and open it again, and it’s pretty annoying when I have movie time with the family.
Is there any solution?

Thats pretty strange.
The way I watch vids is do the full ffmpeg swap from RPM Fusion multimedia howto,
and use mpv player.
Good for you, Einstein!
Sarcasm not appreciated
Did you switch players and see if the change worked for you?
I did. Haruna is quite dependable. But, also has it’s flaws like when I forward and rewind the video.
is the system connected to some kind Hi-Fi amplifier, home theater system or projector?
I’d guess the default suspend timeout of 5 sec may be the culprit.
Either disable timeout or for HIFI systems better increase the timeout to several minutes.
Quick test: let this yt-video play in the background while vlc is paused.
you can run pw-top and see the state of the audio sink (Running, Idle, Suspended ).
Oh nice. It is, in fact, connected to a speaker.
Hey, I double checked, it’s not the speaker’s fault. Removed the speaker and tried, the problem persists.
