I’m giving a run to Fedora 44 on my workstation and laptop. Last version I tested was Fedora 42 some time ago and the “Media Sharing” feature under “Sharing” worked flawlessly and with any hassle (except for the howto/Multimedia, of course), It does not work in F44, tested in both devices, my devices are discoverable by my DLNA players and I can see my legally obtained media files, but I can’t playback any of them.
- I followed the Howto/Multimedia instructions, including the installation of RPM Fusion.
- Files are playable on VLC, which is installed with DNF.
- Device and media files are discoverable on my network by my other devices.
- Tested with transcodig on and off.
- Rygel version is 45.1
I can provide logs but they are humongous, so large in fact, they are very difficult to read, I summarized with AI and it did tell me that it couldn’t find the codecs, nor subtitle files, which is odd.
My TV does not provide any useful error messages.
I hope anyone knows what happens, because other than that I’m enjoying Gnome 50 a lot.
Edit 1:
Doing some digging I found this topic, I spun up a Fedora 43 live ISO and it works as expected.
Edit 2:
I’ve installed MiniDLNA while this gets sorted out. I’m sorry I posted this issue in the Fedora discussion, the appropriate place to have posted this would have been in the Gnome forums, in fact, because this exact issue is present in Ubuntu 26.04, most likely due to the libsoup3 issue I found on the last edit.
What baffles me is that downgrading both libsoup3 (3.6.6-2.fc43) and rygel (45.0-1.fc43) to its F43 versions does not work but using F43 does work.
