Video lagging on fedora 41

Hi,I have a problem with video lagging. I started using this platform today. I’m using Fedora 41 with GNOME and Wayland, but I can’t fix the video lagging issue. I didn’t have this problem before, but now it’s like this and I can’t resolve it. Could someone please help me?:pleading_face:

Welcome to the forum!

Have you installed the nonfree video codecs from RPMFusion?

Also, be aware that Fedora 41 goes end-of-life in late November 2025 (so ~ 1 month from now). The current release is Fedora 42, and Fedora 43 will be officially released on Tuesday 28 Oct.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I just checked, and I do have rpm. If Fedora 41 has reached the end of its support, should I remove Fedora 41 and install Fedora 42 instead? Or is it possible to upgrade to version 42 without formatting the system? Please excuse me — I’m a new Linux user and don’t know much about this yet

You can upgrade from 41 to 43 easily by following the instructions at

43 is officially in beta, but in my opinion it is ready to upgrade to.

Hi. Do you think video lagging issue could be related to Fedora 41? I checked, and it seems they don’t recommend upgrading. So should I remove Fedora 41 and install Fedora 43 instead?

The lagginess might be fixed by upgrading.

I recommend upgrading.

Which applications are you seeing the lag in? Is there any difference between different apps?

Do you have any clue what might have triggered it? e.g. did it start with an update to the kernel and/or any particular packages?
