USB Ports Conflict

I can’t remember when it started, but I think it started by installing Fedora (maybe F38) when I got this laptop (Lenovo Yoga C940). I’ve put up with it for quit a while. I haven’t been in too much of a hurry because the touch pad and touch screen still work. This laptop has one type A and two type C ports. All are side by side on the left side and work fine individually. I use the type A for the mouse dongle most of the time. When I insert another USB stick into one of the type C ports it makes the mouse go crazy or quit altogether. I can switch places with them and the same happens. One piece of advice I’ve found is to run sudo dmesg | grep usb and check for errors. No errors reported. Interestingly, If I plug in my external ssd which is on a 2’ usb cable, it works OK with no adverse effects on the mouse.
Thinking this might be a hardware issue, I have tried to log onto the Lenovo site, but I’ve been unable to do so. It seems they only want to deal with Windows related issues anyway. Maybe someone here has had the problem.
EDIT: For what it’s worth, the charger also plugs into one of the type C ports and has no effect on the mouse.
