USB-C Docking Station for 2 External Monitors

Hello all,

I have been using Linux for many years, mainly in the debian eco system, I have recently decided to use Fedora as my daily, so I decided to buy a new computer and set it up as my current machine is a little bit tired.

I am just running into 1 issue, which I cannot seem to resolve, I have been using a cheap USB-C docking station to output onto two external screens with debian for a few years now, didn’t have an issue setting this up on debian as I could download the drivers directly from the manufacturer, however they don’t seem to support Fedora as well.

I have tried various Fedora workarounds which I found online, but unfortunately, none of these have worked for me.

Now, I am not looking for anymore work arounds unless they are proven to be robust against updates etc. I would be more interested in finding out about better supported hardware that would provide me with a robust trouble free solution going forward.

So, if anyone has any recommendations based on what they are using, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Current kernels have better display support, but without details of your new computer and your monitors we can’t help. There are often limitations and tradeoffs such as using a port for laptop power reduces bandwidth available for displays and HDMI vs DisplayPort differences.

Which drivers? USB-C docks that support USB-C DP alt mode do not require any drivers for video/gfx support. This works out of the box.
Only some USB-C docks with DisplayLink technology require special drivers.
These docks also work with any USB3/USB2 type-A port.
