This thou seems to be a Nvidia issue, and I use AMD GPU, (9070 XT) so I don’t think that is the issue. Steam does still launch, but it just sits there logging in. Don’t know if there is a way to reset it so I can try to relogin.
Tried right clicking on the icon, going to settings, but still it brings me to same screen shown.
Lutris, Heroic, and Retroarch all still work fine after upgrade from 43 to 44. It’s just Steam that is giving me this. and yes I know I’m early… I get that. I did my other pcs, and when everything worked I tried upgrading my daily driver gaming pc.. but got this. To be fair release was supposed to be a few days ago. I just got anxious. But thought you all would want to know there is an issue… fix it before full release.
Tried my backup laptop also upgraded to Fedora 44, but it has Nvidia 3050 in it, and it gets exact same thing. Steam launches, but says Logging in… and never does.
So this doesn’t seem to be an AMD driver or Nvidia driver issue, at least it’s doing it on both.
Can you launch steam from the terminal? Can you paste the output you get here so we can get some more info on what could be an issue.

The previous one had error messages with openssl but I have seen this too many times and still do not know why just running it from the terminal in many occasions solves it.

that was on the AMD one, and it still even from terminal, will not log in. It just sits there stuck on logging in. Could this be the issue?
oh wait, this time after running it from terminal I left it running, and it logged in as well.
Now it works from the menu gui as well. I am good now. Guess just running it from terminal and letting it sit trying to login, finally after a while it did.
You could try
sudo dnf reinstall ca-certificates
sudo update-ca-trust
But you can just try to update the system.
