Updates using Discover hangs on KDE desktop

I’m not using a VPN. It’s affected two KDE Fedora installs and the very brief Fedora Gnome install mentioned above.

If updates work normally from the terminal but Discover hangs on “Fetching updates…”, the issue is likely with Discover itself or its PackageKit backend rather than DNF.

A few things you can try:

  • Restart the PackageKit service: sudo systemctl restart packagekit

  • Clear Discover’s cache by logging out and back in, or deleting its cache/config files.

  • Launch Discover from a terminal (plasma-discover) to see if it prints any error messages when it hangs.

  • Make sure all PackageKit and Discover packages are fully up to date using DNF.

If terminal updates continue to work while Discover consistently hangs, it’s worth reporting it as a Discover/PackageKit bug and including the terminal output.If updates work normally from the terminal but Discover hangs on “Fetching updates…”, the issue is likely with Discover itself or its PackageKit backend rather than DNF.

A related topic

this feels like a crazy game of ping-pong.

in the past couple of days i’ve removed the plasma-discovery-snap package only to have a system update reinstall it again.

just half an hour ago i used discover to check for updates. it worked, because i previously had removed the aforementioned package. a system update was listed consisting of 131 packages. i checked the update’s info and sure enough plasma-discover-snap was again to be installed which now, after finishing installation and rebooting, causes discover to be stuck at fetching updates again.

Did you also blacklist it in /etc/dnf/dnf.conf by

excludepkgs=plasma-discovery-snap
