Unretire a package - order of events

I’m considering requesting for a package (python-gphoto2) to be unretired but I’m unsure of the order I should go about this… I’m not in the packagers group. It needs a maintainer and a review as if it were a new package.

Rawhide and f43 are dead.package. f42 is available but it’s at v2.0.0 from 2019.

So, do I submit a review request on bugzilla, request sponsorship to co/maintain, and an unretire ticket to releng?

A problem with this could be that the most recent builds failed for all three branches so the bugzilla ticket won’t look good!.

I’ve got it building the latest version (2.6.3) successfully in copr so I forked the upstream and made a PR for f42 (simply because that’s still available) but it’s not going to get picked up without a maintainer.

I’ve read thought the docs on the topic numerous times but I’m not sure exactly which bits apply to this scenario.

Thanks for any help!

You should work through the steps in Joining the Package Maintainers. Notice that in the Finding software you wish to maintain for Fedora section, it mentions existing software, which would be the case here. You will need to find a sponsor; some of the steps are intended to help you do so.
