I am a new user, using Firefox under OpenSuSE and I have created an account at - Fedora Accounts yet I am unable to sign in and join the discussions at Sign In. I simply get an error message about an invalid user name or password, even though it is the same one I created my account with.
Are you entering your username and password on that page?
You shouldn’t. Instead you should click on the fedora logo on the top
left part and login there. The username/password is for old accounts
from long ago. The fedora login should let you in.
Of course I was entering my username and password on that page! That is the intuitive and obvious thing to do. Clicking on the fedora logo is definitely NOT the intuitive thing to be doing! LOL. Someone needs to fix this login process IMHO.
And even after clicking on the fedora logo, selecting the group I want to join, and then clicking on the “Sign in” link for the group, filling in my username (or email address) and password still fails. I am told “The username and/or password you specified are not correct.” So still no joy, and I am apparently not allowed to start a new thread until I sign it.

Yeah, it’s definitely not ideal.

After you click on the fedora logo/icon, and enter your
username/password on the page that loads (id.fedoraproject.org it should
be), then you shouldn’t need to enter username/password again. You
should be logged in and if you go to a group it should have a ‘start new
thread’ button.
Can you grab a screenshot or the url of the page you are hitting thats
saying your password is incorrect?
Step 4. Searching for the list I want to join, firewalld-users shows me the link for the firewalld-users and clicking on it then takes me to this URL -
which is the same page as the one I was at in Step 1. Clicking on the Fedora logo would simply lead to another recursive dead end. Filling the in “Login” and “Password” fields (which you told me not to do) leads me back to this same login page but with an error message - “The e-mail address and/or password you specified are not correct.”
So I dunno how to sign up or sign in properly and just get led around in a recursive loop. I do have an account that I managed to sign up for at Fedora Accounts? Neither using my avatar/username name or my email address works.
Marc…
P.S. Dunno how to preview my answer so dunno if this will show up OK after posting… (Sigh just one of several reasons why I hate web based email or message interfaces so much!)
Your mistake is on step 3. You are clicking on the top-left “Fedora HyperKitty” button, which takes you back to the homepage/archives.
You should click on the “Fedora” button (the first and biggest button on the login form, in a row of buttons with other OpenID providers). This will redirect you to a Fedora Accounts page where you enter your credentials for your Fedora account.
Generally, the header on a website is used for global navigation, and functions separately from the page contents.
Clarification on two points:
HyperKitty is the mailing list software, used to display the archives, manage your list preferences etc.
Logging in using a third-party account (also known as Single-Sign On [SSO] or OpenID login) is very common; you might’ve used it to login with Facebook/Google/Apple/etc accounts on other sites. In this case, the “third-party” is Fedora Accounts.
Since you created a Fedora account, but you never created an account on the HyperKitty software instance, it’s reasonable to say you should login with your Fedora account by clicking on the Fedora button instead of entering your credentials directly.
You will encounter a similar login process on other services like Red Hat Bugzilla (you have to choose the option to login with your Fedora account, not enter your Fedora credentials directly on RHBZ).
Your Fedora account is also what you used to login to this forum (Discourse).
@eveningdarkstar — I’m going to move this post over to Ask Fedora, since this help category is meant specifically for help/feedback for this specific site. While it’s all part of Fedora’s overall infrastructure, the “Hyperkitty” system where that list is hosted a completely different service. I totally understand why you asked here, though, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Just re-categorizing…
